Northlands Curriculum Overview
At Northlands the curriculum forms the basis for our learning and the experiences our children enjoy during their time with us. Our curriculum encompasses creativity, culture and sporting opportunities through a themed approach. We link our learning together through broadening the values and opportunities we provide for our children as they grow and develop into young learners.
Our curriculum is planned progressively and it promotes an enjoyment of learning and a commitment to learning and achieving. It also works alongside and promotes our school ethos:
One Community - Many Cultures - Achieving Together.
Each Year group will cover three themes over the course of the year. Within each term, the pupils will be taught both the knowledge and skills required to progress through the curriculum areas.
In Early Years we follow the 9 prime areas to support our creative curriculum. Each term a key theme will be used to address the key skills.
The thematic overview for each year is shown below. For further information click on the individual subject to discover more.

Throughout the curriculum we value and include all parts of our diverse community, through experiential learning, visits and celebratory events such as Unity day. We invite the community in to share experiences and work together harmoniously to build and strengthen respectful relationships. We embrace our community through exploring languages and other traditions. |
Enable children to make connections across different areas of the curriculum Enable all children to acquire and develop a broad range of knowledge, skills and understanding. The curriculum is taught through key themes, where pupils discover traditions, historical aspects and culture. |
Encourage the best possible progress and attainment for all our children. Provide pupils with wow moments to think creatively and solve problems. Develop their capacity to learn and work independently and collaboratively. Use assessment to enable our pupils to make appropriate progress. Encourage the children to perform and develop their confidence through the performing arts. |
