Northlands' Governors

I am very proud to be the Chair of Governors at Northlands Primary School and have been in post since September 2014. During my time here, I have witnessed first-hand the emphasis that all staff place on safeguarding and providing quality teaching to all children. At Northlands, we take pride in helping children achieve their potential within a fun, safe and nurturing environment.

All of the Governors are committed to ensuring that the school continues to build on its strengths and take our children on an educational journey to provide them with life-long learning skills. We talk and listen to parents, carers, staff and pupils to better understand how we can grow and develop the school.

As a governing body we:

  • Set the schools's values, vision and strategic aims

  • Agree plans and policies, including admission arrangements

  • Monitor the performance and progress of our children

  • Work with the staff to help them teach and care for our children

  • Decide how the resources of the school are best used

  • Act as a critical friend to the Headteacher to support and challenge her in leading the school

  • Ensure that the school is accountable to the children and parents it serves, and to the local community

Orlando Arnold, Chair of Governors

STRUCTURE OF THE GOVERNING BODY

At Northlands, the Governors are representatives of all the key groups involved in our school – the Parents, the Staff, the Local Authority and the Community. Some are appointed and some are elected. All serve for a term of four years. Further information is contained in our constitution document see below.

We meet together at least twice a term as a whole Governing Body, or as a Finance and Resources Committee. In addition each Governor has an area on the School Development Plan that they are responsible for monitoring. There are also designated governors for SEND provision, Safeguarding and Health and Safety.
