Physical Education

Intent:

 

To develop fundamental skills through the engagement of all pupils within physical activity.

For pupils to have a good understanding of how to lead a healthy lifestyle.

 

Implementation:

Teachers use the progression documents that are drawn from the National Curriculum, to plan and develop pupil’s skills and knowledge for Physical Education. Teachers also follow a key fundamental skill each half term as a focus to develop pupil’s skills, so that they demonstrate their abilities during a summer assessment.

Basic fundamental skills are a focus for each year group, the skills have been progressively organised within the curriculum document (taken from the National curriculum) to ensure skills are built upon and repeated to develop them further and master them.

Aims:

The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities 
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time 
  • engage in competitive sports and activities  
  • lead healthy, active lives
