School governors
Northlands Primary School
One Community – Many Cultures – Achieving Together
Message from the Chair of Governors
I have lived close to the school since 2009 and I have three children all of which attend or have attended the school. With my oldest child joining in 2010 and my first term as a governor starting in 2016 I have got to know the school and its community well and it has been a privilege to see the school develop. In September 2020 I became Chair of the board and role I am proud to hold. Myself and my fellow governors meet regularly and visit the school to help us carry out our duties. The core functions of the governing board are:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding the headteacher and other senior leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
At Northlands, the Governors are representatives of all the key groups involved in our school – the Parents, the Staff, the Local Authority and the Community. Some are appointed and some are elected. All serve for a term of four years. Further information is contained in our constitution document see below.
We meet together at least twice a term as a whole Governing Body, or as a Finance and Resources Committee. In addition each Governor has an area on the School Development Plan (the document which sets out how we want the school to improve each year) that they are responsible for monitoring. There are also designated governors for SEND provision, Safeguarding and Health and Safety.
I can be contacted by the school office.
Mr Ian Dewes, Chair of Governors
